Safe Graduation 2008

Plans are underway for the GHS Safe Graduation Party.  This event is a drug and alcohol-free party that all GHS Class of 2008 graduates are invited to attend.  Historically, it has been attended by over 98% of the graduates.

The party is organized and hosted by senior parents.  We welcome all volunteers.  To volunteer on the night of the event, please contact Jean Ginnetty at 652-9615 or j.ginnetty@dreyfusashby.com.

Funding for the event is entirely through donations from senior parents and corporate donations.  If you haven’t had a chance to make your donation, it is not too late.  You can mail it to: Safe Graduation Class of 2008, P.O. Box 101, Glastonbury, CT  06033.  Your donation will be used to pay for food, entertainment and activities.

The Decorating Committee is the busiest and the largest pre-party committee whose purpose it is to transform the high school for the party.  As has been the tradition, the committee will be having work nights.  The following is a tentative schedule: 2/25, 3/4, 3/10, 3/18, 3/25 (4-6pm), 4/7, 4/22, 4/28, 5/5, 5/20, 5/27, 6/3 (4-6pm) and June 9.  All meetings will be held in the cafeteria from 7-9 pm unless otherwise noted.  We will be working on various projects during these workshops and will need volunteers to help cut, trace and assemble decorations.  Please join us as you can, even if you can only stay for an hour, we appreciate any and all help!

To help us help the Class of 2008 look back on fond memories of years gone by, the 2008 Safe Graduation Party Memory Room Committee is asking for your assistance.  We need pictures of this year’s senior class taken from their infancy to present day.  Look through your drawers, albums, and files for pictures of this year’s seniors.  We are looking for school pictures, sports pictures, pictures from social events, and any other pictures that show our seniors being themselves.  Make copies or doubles, as these pictures are not returnable. We need to set a limit of four pictures per student, and we would like to have them as soon as possible.  A decorated box is available in the office for you to drop off your photos.  If you prefer, you may mail your pictures to 7 Green Briar, Glastonbury 06033 (Attn. Memory Room).  The Memory Room will also have a match the student with the Baby Picture Wall.  Please write the student’s name on the back of their baby pictures for our reference.  Thanks for the memories.

The goal of this event is to keep our kids safe in a drug and alcohol-free environment while enjoying their last night together as a class.  We appreciate your support in making this event possible!

The next meeting of the Safe Graduation Committee will be on February 27 at 7pm in Room A115.  If you have any questions or ideas, please contact any of the co-chairs: Diane Lucas (633-6078, sands.lucas@cox.net), Linda Dyer (659-0159, lkdyer@sbcglobal.net), Robin Apanovitch (657-4442, rapanovitch@sbcglobal.net), Ellen Silva (659-9409, ellensilva@hotmail.com), Tina Branning (657-9348, CTBrann13@aol.com) or Kim Flannigan (633-0833, kflantoo@yahoo.com).
